Windham, NH; September 15, 2000 - Open Archive Systems, Inc., a leading provider of integrated solutions for the document management industry, releases version 2.2 of echive®- a series of electronic archive management software products. echive products bring your active and legacy documents and drawing archives closer to your desktop or network environment allowing visual data organization with virtually instantaneous document search and retrieval. Outlined below are the added enhancements of version 2.2

Enhanced Office Support

• Native PDF viewing - the native acrobat viewer is no longer required
• Native Word, Excel and other office formats allows viewing the formats "as is "(WYSIWYG)
• Full text indexing of Office, WordPerfect and many other formats
• Page flipper icons are now automatically enabled for multi-page documents
• Redlining add-on option allows redlining on PDF, Word, Excel and other files

Improved Searching

• SurroundSearch^™, our full text search and retrieval technology, now graphically highlights the searched word within CAD drawings (natively), Office and PDF files. Next and previous icons quickly step through search result hits with automatic autopanning for accurate previews.
• Boolean searching capability on SQL searches
• Sentence extraction for search words is displayed in Tooltips ensuring accuracy in every search
• Advanced searching supports proximity searching of words
• Database password security
• Redlining for TIF and CAD
• Initiate "Find" within CAD, Office, PDF and other formats
• Improved printing and plotting with banners, watermarks, scale and more

New Products

echive Office Explorer views PDF, MSOffice, A/B size, TIF, WordPerfect and other similar formats using native office viewing.

echive Universal Explorer has the tools to view CAD formats as well as most office formats. Download a trial version with sample databases.

echive Media Publisher Module adds the ability to publish databases to portable media such as CD-ROM or DVD. It is sold as an unlimited license subscription per year. This gives the licensee the right to burn an unlimited number of CD’s containing the built-in Explorer viewing tool.

echive Captureallows direct scanning of ISIS and TWAIN compatible scanners. Blank page detection helps create multi-page files.

echive TIFIndexer^™ expedites the indexing of scanned files into echive Organizer or any other database. Indexed fields are easily populated using Organizer’s Foldexer and/or drag-and-drop indexing feature. Organizer can also track indexing costs as a cost accounting feature for Service Bureaus.

The echive Series is comprised of multiple components. With seamless integration, users can select which products meet their specific needs.

• echive Organizer provides the ability to quickly capture property data from files and arrange electronic archives into Microsoft Access^TM compatible database files. It incorporates full-content indexing and searching of CAD, existing Microsoft Office^TM files and scanned documents using our SurroundSearchä engine.
• echive Explorer is the client-side application allowing users to search, retrieve, view and print documents stored within a predefined database.
• echive Capture adds the ability to scan office documents using ISIS and Twain drivers for simple incorporation into an echive Organizer database. Built-in OCR/ICR text recognition indexes the scanned archives into the SurroundSearch engine.
• echive Publisher distributes your database via large capacity media or to the Web. Use any standard Web browser to explore and search a published database using both SurroundSearch and SQL methods.

echive file support includes large and small format scanned images, AutoCAD^®, Microstation^®, plot, Microsoft Officeä, PDF, HTML and more. Every file type can be stored, indexed and managed in one simple and consistent environment. The complete architecture of echive is designed to be Web-enabled. The upcoming release of echive Publisherä will provide the ability to publish to the Web or CD/DVD media.
