The Image Enhancement Service automatically cleans up scans for increased legibility and improved OCR. Image enhancement runs prior to OCR and can be used in conjunction with any connector or service for eCopy.

Image Clean-up Features

Remove Background Colors (Clarify): Lightly colored backgrounds, such as on purchase orders, invoices or NCR forms, etc., frequenlty cause problems when scanned. By removing these background colors, text clarity and OCR accuracy can be significantly improved. There are two Clarify options - Advanced Clarify removes the background color; Clarify Forms, is a group of image enhancement settings that includes Advanced Clarify. See example below:

Remove Halftones This is similar to Advanced Clarify except it is for black and white documents. It removes shaded while retaining the text information. Like the Clarify options, this improves OCR results and legibility.

Straighten Corrects any crooked pages that result from scanning or printing.

Despeckle Removes unwanted background dots which creates a smaller and cleaner file. The speckle size can be set so desirable specks, such as the dot on an "i", are not removed.

Crop Produces a standard margin around an image. This process might remove excess border or add border to create consistent results.

Smooth Characters Improves legibility by smoothing the edges of text characters.

Remove Grid Lines Eliminates grid lines on forms or tables and repairs any text that intersects with the lines.

Thicken/Thin Adds or removes one pixel around everything to improve documents that don't scan well.
