echive 5.20
This is the latest version of the echive Series. Please read below for a summary of enhancements that are included in 5.20.9 and then follow the instructions in the Upgrade Process section to decide the best method for getting this upgrade. Please note that upgrades are free for our maintenance customers. If you are not sure about your maintenance status, please give us a call.
- AutoCAD File support - AutoCAD 2008 viewing and printing, full-text search including extraction and indexing of text, mtext and attribute data, and multiple layouts can now be viewed as pages of multi-page documents.
- Full text searching - Improved full-text search highlighting within an active document and better options for search and display of results
- Database importing - A new Organizer File/Import Data command was added to enable importing document record data from other echive databases with the same field structure.
- The number of database names appearing in the File/Open recently opened list can be set in the echive.ini configuration file
- Minor fixes:
-- Property Search default is now set to 'And' instead of 'Or'
-- Property Search vertical slider bar performance now accommodates larger numbers of search properties
-- Property Search now controls searchablility of OADate, OASize, OAPath (file creation date, file size, and file path).
-- Property Designer now limits the number of characters for custom field names to 16 to prevent clipping of long field names in the Property Search screen
-- Redline is repaired to prevent cursor movements from initiating window zooms rather than redline functions when documents are opened from the List View and Search Results
-- TIFF viewing is now improved upon initial opening in the viewer
-- For the Check Out/In and Revision Management add-on, Revision Management preferences tab is now present only in the Organizer Tools/Options menu and not in the Explorer Edit/Preferences tab
-- The Check-in username is now being stored to the appropriate property field
Maintenance Information
Maintenance Customers: As always, OAS maintenance customers can receive upgrades at no cost. Our maintenance customers also have access to a simple update process through a regular echive menu selection called "Check for Updates". This ensures that our customers always have access to the latest version of echive. Occasionally we will ask you to do a full un-install and re-install when needed for additional handling. Please see the upgrade options below to see which way to proceed.
Non-Maintenence Customers: If you are not under a current maintenance contract, you can purchase this upgrade or purchase back maintenance, whichever is more beneficial for you.

This release was long in the making with lots of great new features. Some of the highlights include:
- Enhanced PDF support - searchable text is highlighted in the pdf for breezing through search results
- More display options in the List Report Viewer - change your sorting within the detailed list of files to quickly locate your files
- Template support for database creation - a great time saver
- AutoCAD 2007 support
- Indexer OCR - extract data from external MS Access databases, Excel spreadsheets and other ODBC (DSN) databases to automatically populate index data. This can significantly speed up the indexing process.
- Indexer OCR - additional right click menus for defining, saving and loading zone files. New buttons for 'OCR Zones' and 'Show/Hide Zones'.
- Organizer/Explorer - Adobe Acrobat Version 1.6 native acrobat viewing engine technology is now embedded, which supports compatibility and viewing of multiple PDF formats including Acrobat 7.0.
- Organizer/Explorer - enhanced PDF viewing. Searchable Image files with hidden (OCR) text can be viewed in their native form, with highlighting of located search strings. Cut and paste of PDF Searchable Image file image or text data into other applications is enhanced.
- Organizer/Explorer - AutoCAD® 2007 DWG/DWF/DXF viewing and printing support and maintaining 2006 format compatibility.
- Organizer/Explorer - Option to select larger icons for the main system functions (search, re-index, document properties) and new viewing icons (zoom, pan, etc.).
- Organizer - Detect and automatically eliminate duplicate document record keys in a database.
- Organizer - save a database file ‘as a template’ to use in creating other new databases. The new database design and user right assignments are identical, but the database is empty of documents.
- Organizer/Explorer - set and save column widths in the List/Report viewer.
- Organizer Administrators - Check for Redlines in older echive databases ensures any documents with Redlines will have a Redline icon in the Property Explorer/Tree.
- Organizer - set or change passwords within the User Rights Manager for echive Web Explorer users to log into a database .
- Organizer/Explorer - select from a list of common formats for displaying Date field information and set in preferences.
- Organizer/Explorer - view documents in the List/Report viewer arranged in ascending or descending order according to Title or the values in any other single index property column.
- Organizer/Explorer- email session conflicts are eliminated if a user is already signed into an Outlook email session when attempting to Send documents from echive.

- Product authorization codes are no longer stored in Windows Registries but in a license file (echive.license), so multiple users can utilize the product if authorized.
- Improved right click mouse selections in all document viewers for new View menus and View Options.
- Foldexer supports up to 7 levels of folders for importing.
- Tree browsing within the echive Property Explorer window is expanded to 5 levels.
- Property Designer has new right mouse selections to edit or delete properties, or add properties as part of a multi-level property.
- Organizer users can right mouse click on a folder in the Property Explorer and add a new property value (folder) to the property level immediately below the selected folder, or add (import) a document to the folder.
- Users can set their preference to print a set of selected documents as a print queue.
- Indexer users can create new database properties while setting up an indexing profile, eliminating the need to completely set-up database properties in echive Organizer.
- Indexer now generates unique record keys incremented to the tenth of one second, eliminating possible duplicate document record keys in the database.
- Indexer can now automatically capture into an echive database the date/time a document is indexed and the Windows Log-in username of the Indexer operator.
- Input Source directories can now automatically include subdirectories for indexing.
- A field can be designated to append to the output path, which will segregate documents into output subfolders based on the value of that index field, by ‘Cabinet’ or ‘Customer_Name’ for example. The subfolders are automatically created.
